10 Benefits Of Using A Vision Board
10 benefits of using a vision board at work or at home
Vision boards are tools used by people all over the world to assist with clarifying, concentrating and maintaining focus on specific goals. These goals may be about lifestyle, work, financial, healthcare or indeed anything that a person chooses to focus on but works as a visual reminder and affirmation of where you want to head towards. A vision board can also help you to increase understanding of what you want and how you want to get there.
All you need is a piece of card, a glue stick, some scissors and some magazines or pictures. Make a collage based on what you like or what you want in the future. The key is to be free and to let yourself be guided by emotion. Try to do it without being disturbed or watched. Don’t judge what you cut out and stick down. Once completed, the key is to stand back, look at the themes that emerge. From there, I find putting it somewhere that you can look back at helps.
1. Motivate yourself
A Vision Board will motivate you to work towards the goals you have set. Producing a vision board will direct your mind to themes, colours, feelings or emotions.
2. Destress
The crafting of a vision board can produce some stillness within a hectic world. Taking the time out to focus on a vision board gives you time for personal reflection whilst occupying your mind and setting a goal so it doesn’t become boring.
3. Be creative and have fun
The board is a bit like a visual wish list. Be creative, be your true self and let things go on there that you’re drawn to. You can work it out later. No one need see what you come up with, unless you want them to.
Most of us stopped glueing, cutting and sticking when we were little. Enjoy the experience. It can be quite cathartic.
4. Figure out your goals
Putting something on paper, even if not 100% accurate to your wishes, often helps bring greater awareness of your hopes, goals and dreams. It can help you to make more informed choices about what you want and how much you want it.
5. Reassess
Taking a step back to look at and analyse your creation can reveal lots to you about you, where your headspace is at, what you are hoping to achieve or what you are hoping to get from.
What you will see in front of you are images or words that fit to thoughts. How does looking at them make you feel? Why did you choose these and what do they mean to you?
6. Remind yourself of where you want to be
Put your vision board in a strategic place where you can see it regularly. You don’t need to set workable goals with real deadlines from there, but keep the images and thoughts in your mind. Get in a routine if you’re unsure where life is heading to take a look at your vision board, as it may help indirectly to make your decisions.
7. Build and grow
Your vision board is your vision board. Feel free to cut bits out, add to it, go onto new bits of paper or even stick over things. It it not set in stone, so it’s best to think of it as a working document that you can edit whenever you want or need to.
8. Get over your limitations
Often our busy lives make us think things are impossible or beyond us. A vision board lets you fantasise for a moment and be free from the limitations. Once you see your uncontrolled wishes in front of you, you may still think they are beyond you. However, with time you may note a change in your opinion on them. You may find that they become attainable, or that this goal actually isn’t as important to you as you once thought.
9. Condense thoughts
Many big business leaders use multiple vision boards, with each focussing on one set thing (such as work, homelife, dreams). Do what you need to and most certainly don’t let anyone take it from you.
Business vision boards can help to unify thoughts as part of business teams or help condense the views of many to decision makers. Try getting your team to do individual vision boards on a project and then put them up on a wall side by side with no names. What do they say about your team or the visions of your team?
Vision boards can be used to condense your thoughts, help you to see the concepts behind your goals or allow you a way to see wider trends.
10. Save money
In terms of figuring out your hopes, dreams or direction, a vision board is a cost effective way of gaining information, setting affirmations and figuring out where your (or your teams) mind is at. For the cost of a cup of coffee, you can have a working document to support and guide you through the rough times and help you to determine what you truly want out of life.
There are lots of ways you can empower wellbeing in your life. Vision boards are one of many tools that may help you to refocus yourself towards functioning more at your optimum.
