1. Avoid over-straining
It is always worth looking at your posture. Sometimes we can adopt a posture that really isn’t helpful on some of those muscles within the neck or shoulders. Take a look at your posture and see if this is something you could work on.
Are you looking down at your phone right now to read this? Maybe sleeping funny because your pillow or mattress needs changing? Perhaps slouching on the sofa watching TV? Try and adopt different postures (ideally avoiding slouching!) and change it up now and then to keep it varied. The same goes if you work at a desk all day, change your position, get up for a walk every now and then, stretch it out. Ensuring you are not over-straining is a really good tip to help with headaches.
2. Support yourself more
Similarly, work on giving yourself the support you need. And when we say support, we’re not talking about those devices that you might see advertised all over the place. We mean support yourself by:
- Adopting some better postures
- Looking at whether you need to replace your pillows or mattress

3. Stay Hydrated
Proper hydration is key. One of the types of headaches is actually called a hydration headache. Although, most headaches have some form of hydration element to them. It is always a good idea to drink more water.
If you notice a bit of a headache coming on, consider adding some extra fluids to your diet, unless you have had recent trauma. If your headache is due to trauma, we don’t advise adding in fluids and instead to seek medical attention instead.
Nine times out of ten, hydration is a good thing to be adding into your day-to-day as the body is largely made up of water. If you’re slightly deprived of water, a headache is one of the main symptoms that you will get first.
4. Visit a Chiropractor
This might come as a surprise, but tip number four is to consider Chiropractic care. There’s a nice chunk of evidence that suggests chiropractors and Chiropractic care is effective in helping certain types of headache. In fact, most research is related to neck based headaches. Chiropractors are also well known for migraine prevention too so if you suffer from migraines, book in for an initial consultation to see if it will work for you.
If you want to try out chiropractic care, the next step is to book in for an initial consultation with your local chiropractor. And if you’re local to Basingstoke, come down and see us here at Connective Chiropractic, you can book using the link below.
5. Don’t rely on medication
Although it can be tempting to just find a pill to take the pain away, we advise you to look into other options first. It may sound crazy but the side effects of a lot of headache medication often include… headaches! As well as many other symptoms too. So we would suggest being mindful with how much you are using them. Are you taking them because you need them or just because they’re there?
There you have it, our top five tips to help with headaches! If you have any other queries or comments, or you’d like some further information on headaches, feel free to write in the comments below. We would love to help!
