Understanding Your Progress Review and Reassessment
What is a Progress Review at Connective Chiropractic?
As evidence based, regulated chiropractors we want to ensure we are helping you the best we can. We want to use evidence based tests and metrics to establish whether we can help, whether we can continue to assist or whether our treatments or recommendations need to be altered also. Our progress review sessions help us to formally do this. They also help us to check in with you about how you feel you are making progress and whether you are happy to continue care.
Progress Review versus reassessment. What do the terms mean at Connective Chiropractic?
Historically we used the term ‘reassessment’ to mean progress review. From 2026 however we use the term progress review slightly differently. For us however a progress review includes a reassessment but is slightly more full in nature.
What does a progress review contain?
At Connective Chiropractic, a progress review may include a reassessment of your progress, a comparison of how you are now in comparison to earlier stages of your care and a discussion both about the updates to how you feel along with the viability and prognosis (i.e: likely outcomes) of continuing chiropractic care. We’ll check that you are happy to continue consent for care, whilst making plans foe how the next stage of care will look. This may include new referrals to other practitioners or integrative care (i.e: a mix of Chiropractic and other forms of care plan). As part of the discussion we may additionally discuss alternative ways of paying for your care up until the date of your next progress review to paying as you go, as appropriate. We recommend prebooking your care across your next stage as far as it is possible to do so.
Comparing how you feel now to then
Before your progress review, we will send you some forms to fill out. These are essentially a smaller version of our onboarding forms, but they allow us to track how you are feeling now in comparison to how you felt when you first came in. It also helps us to capture and record any new information before you come in. We urge all patients to fill this out before they come into the clinic so we can hit the floor running on your session.
What happens during the reassessment component of a progress review?
During your reassessment we will repeat any tests that were of note during your initial consultation, or at previous reviews, to help us compare and contrast them. We are able to make changes to our working diagnosis or rationale for care recommendations with these in mind.
Should any new issues or conditions arise, this progress review allows us to conduct some additional testing also to ensure that we are best placed to advice or manage them.
Do I really have to consent to care again?
We realise that most of our patients would rather just get stuck into care. However, as a regulated profession and as a clinic that strives towards best practices, we believe that consent checking is an important step of our progress reviews.
As we are able to discuss your care plan and its progress to date it gives you the option to ask additional questions, chat more about alternative options or risks, the possible outcomes of having further care (versus no care) and also considering wider options or the impact of changes to care with your goals. All of this makes note to the fact that circumstances can change (and in fact, we expect them to for you having been through a stage of Chiropractic care). With this in mind, so can your level of understanding or consent.
We like to think of this step as an opportunity to opt out if you need to, go all in if it’s in your best interests and ask the questions you need to ensure you can be happy, healthy and well going forward, no matter what you decide.
When do you get the results of your progress review?
We’ll discuss the details of your progress review during your progress review session. At the end of the session you will have some information about our proposed plan for the next stages of care for you to consider. You are always welcome to ask us additional questions at the following session you come in or by contacting us if you are unsure or have follow on questions.
