Musculoskeletal health in UK businesses
Every year the Health and Safety Executive report on the wellbeing of employees and employers nationwide. As part of its annual mandate, it reports on work related musculoskeletal disorders. This blog post sums up the findings of the HSE from 2017.
THE PREVALENCE OF MUSCULOSKELETAL INJURIES IN BRITISH WORKPLACES
507,000 work-related musculoskeletal disorders were reported of in 2017 alone. 8.9 million working days were lost due to musculoskeletal issues alone. Many of these musculoskeletal disorders are avoidable through education or strategic assessment of workplace responsibilities.
Common causes of workplace related musculoskeletal disorders come from workplace physical demands, repetitive work, workplace environment and ergonomics. Wider issues such as mental health or the culture of workplace wellbeing might also have an effect.
8.9 million working days were lost due to workplace musculoskeletal disorders in 2016-2017. On average 17.6 working days were lost for each case.
